Welcome To Norfolk

Breathtaking landscapes, stunning architecture, delightful villages, dreamy beaches and even basking seals are just some of the highlights of Norfolk, although perhaps it is the relaxed pace of life and sense of space that make a truly unforgettable experience.

Long an inspiration for artists, the Norfolk Coast has been described as a supreme laboratory for coastal ecology. Miles of unspoilt beaches are backed with sand dunes, pine forests, mud flats, reed beds, and salt marshes considered to be the finest in Europe. Holkham Beach was voted Britain's finest by Coast Magazine and even doubled as the Caribbean in ‘Shakespeare in Love,' while the traditional resorts at Cromer, Hunstanton and Sheringham all boast Blue Flags.

The county is internationally renowned for the outstanding Norfolk Broads, the UK's largest protected wetland. With over one hundred miles of navigable waterways and a full range of boating options, one of the area's great pleasures is peacefully gliding along with the sunlight glistening on the surface, then mooring up to explore churches, windmills and the hospitality of a traditional pub in one of many charming villages.

Norfolk's landscape is incredibly diverse, incorporating historic heathland, wetland and farmland, while Thetford Forest is the largest lowland pine forest in Britain. Natural wildlife is in abundance with the seals at Blakeney, RSPB reserves at Cley and Thornham, and Pensthorpe, home of the BBC's Springwatch. Hiking/cycling trails such as Peddars Way and the Norfolk Coast Path make the landscape easily accessible on foot.

Studded throughout are historic market towns, each boasting a distinct flavour; Holt with its delicatessens and craft stores; Aylsham's auctions of antiques; King's Lynn's many museums; and Fakenham with its racecourse adored by the royal family, who provide their own much-loved Norfolk attraction in their elegant Sandringham residence.

At Norfolk's heart is Norwich, where the Romanesque cathedral spire and the Norman castle stand imperiously over a city brimming with one thousand years worth of architectural and cultural heritage. Norwich is also ranked as one of the UK's top shopping destinations with malls, department stores, craft shops and the famous market. With top theatres, restaurants, galleries and nightclubs, you have a fittingly vibrant capital for a unique county.
