The Old Bakery, Blakeney

This fine example of a typical flint cottage of pleasing proportions dates from 1890. The interior has recently undergone a complete refurbishment under the care of French & Lines, with interior design by Jane Colston, using natural furnishings and calm colours.

The spacious accommodation features a light-filled summer sitting room leading on to a courtyard garden. A welcome basket of produce and the obligatory crab lines for local fishing are provided.

Facilities inlcude a fully equipped kitchen, CD/iPod player, Egyptian cotton sheets, 32-inch flatscreen TV, DVD and games collection, and many other thoughtful touches.

The Old Bakery may be rented alone or in conjunction with Cley Windmill, five minutes away, where dining is also available. The Windmill’s chef will also cook a meal at the house on request. Often used as an atmospheric TV and film backdrop, Cley’s converted windmill has commanding views over the salt marshes.

Blakeney is an attractive coastal village of traditional flint cottages. Blakeney Point, reached by ferry from the village, is a nature reserve of sand dunes and shingle and is home to common and grey seals and colonies of birdlife.

The Norfolk Coast Path, a national hiking trail, is ideal for exploring the relaxed ambience and dramatically changing scenery of the Heritage Coast, including salt marshes, picturesque fishing villages, unspoilt beaches, nature reserves and the magnificent Holkham Hall.

The Georgian market town of Holt is within five miles, while the historic city of Norwich is a fifty-minute drive.
