The Orange Tree
Recommended in Alistair Sawday’s ‘Special Places to Stay,’ The Orange Tree provides Bed and Breakfast accommodation.
Six family-friendly and dog-friendly en suite rooms are decorated to a deluxe standard and are located in a courtyard annexe. Travel cots are available on request, and one special family suite has a separate room with bunk beds for added privacy.
The Old Bakery Annexe now also provides four individually decorated and themed en suite rooms rooms; the Bloomer suite is ideal for couples; while a double bedroom features a children’s room and exclusive use of the large conservatory.
The pub, voted Dining Pub of the Year in the Good Pub Guide for the last three years, serves locally sourced produce from regularly changing menus and holds two AA rosettes for fine dining, while the chef was voted Great British Seafood Pub Chef of the Year 2010. A pleasant al fresco dining area is available and a children’s playground is in the garden.
Thornham is a village of charming cottages with a secluded beach that was once a favourite destination for smugglers. The marshes etched by veins of saltwater are a popular destination for walkers, artists and photographers, with the Boat House and Thornham Stumps being oft-depicted scenes.
The many delights of the stunning Heritage Coast can be easily accessed by road and the Norfolk Coast Path. Coastal golf in the fishing village of Brancaster is within a stroll, as is the RSPB sanctuary at Titchwell Marsh.
To the east the Blue Flag traditional resort town of Hunstanton is a short drive.
