The Red Lion, Eaton

The existence of the Red Lion as a coaching inn can be traced back to 1643, when it was owned by the Sheriff of Norwich.

Dutch gables, beams, panelled walls and inglenook fireplaces make it perhaps the finest house of that period in the area. A suit of armour stands in the bar and the excellent restaurant offers both traditional and more imaginative dishes.

The six comfortable en suite bedrooms combine classic style with modern comforts. Three of the rooms are located in the refurbished stable annexe and are completely self-contained with private entrances.

The Red Lion is on the southern edge of Norwich, just two minutes away from the main A11 road and A47 southern bypass, close to the University of East Anglia.

A short drive away, historic Norwich is a unique mixture of the old and new, with its Norman castle and cathedral and surrounded by a four-mile wall containing a dozen gateways. Norwich is also one of the UK’s top ten shopping centres boasting two shopping malls, a celebrated open air market and narrow lanes with individual boutiques.

For more rural pursuits, the miles of navigable waterways of the Norfolk Broads are easily accessible and the North and East Norfolk coasts, with charming villages, long sandy beaches and traditional seaside resorts are also just a half hour drive.
