The George Hotel, Dereham
The George Hotel is an attractive eighteenth century inn situated in the heart of the bustling market town of Dereham. The elegant Georgian building houses spacious bars, an outside terrace and conservatory and an excellent restaurant run by the chef owner. The newly refurbished en suite bedrooms, some with a four-poster bed, have a range of modern amenities.
The Mid-Norfolk Railway, Norfolk’s longest heritage railway, runs from Dereham through eleven miles of rural countryside to the historical town of Wymondham with its ancient Market Cross and magnificent Abbey dating from 1107. Gressenhall Museum of Rural life is only a few minutes drive away for a fascinating journey through four hundred years of Norfolk history.
The surrounding countryside is criss-crossed with footpaths for country strolls, and the wide sandy beaches of the stunning Norfolk Coast and the celebrated Norfolk Broads are both well under an hour’s drive.
Just fifteen miles away, the splendid historic city of Norwich has a fascinating past contained within its medieval streets, Norman cathedral and castle. It is also a fine shopping centre, one of the top ten in the UK, with shopping malls, arcades, winding lanes and a unique open air market.
