Caistor Hall Hotel

The splendour of this fine Georgian Country House, dating from the early nineteenth century, is matched by the elegance and comfort of the interior.

The excellent restaurant, which has views of the surrounding gardens, is decorated with chandeliers and period furniture. The sumptuous bedrooms are decorated in individual period styles with antique furniture and rich drapes, and some have four poster or canopied beds.

Close to the hotel is the important site of the Roman town of Caistor St Edmund (Venta Icenorum), where the Iceni of Roman Britain flourished for more than three centuries. Now it is one of only a few Roman towns in Britain that has not been damaged or hidden by later buildings, and many remains have been found on the site. The impressive town wall on the north side still stands to a height of six metres. A circular or riverside walk can be followed around the town.

Just three miles away, historic Norwich is a unique mixture of the old and new, with its Norman castle and cathedral and surrounded by a four-mile wall containing a dozen gateways. Norwich is also one of the UK’s top ten shopping destinations, with two shopping malls, a celebrated open air market and narrow lanes with individual shops.

The Norfolk Broads and the award-winning Norfolk and Suffolk Coasts are well under an hour’s drive.
