Black Lion Hotel

Once a medieval coaching inn, the Black Lion is now a stylish and comfortable hotel. The six en suite rooms retain many original features including Georgian fireplaces and medieval timber beams and include free Wi-Fi and other regular amenities.

In the restaurant the wide-ranging menu changes daily, based on the fresh seasonal produce sourced from local farmers, fishermen and producers. The bar stocks a good range of real ales from local breweries and a fine selection of wines.

An important Christian pilgrimage site since 1061, Walsingham was restored in the 20th century with both Anglican and Catholic replica shrines. Walsingham also has the oldest functioning Methodist chapel in East Anglia, dating from 1794 and the former railway station is now a Russian Orthodox Church. The atmospheric village of historical timber-framed buildings additionally features a museum and priory gardens.

The bustling market town of Fakenham and Thursford, famed for the country’s largest Christmas spectacular for which the Black Lion offers special deals, are both within five miles.

A light railway connects Walsingham to the colourful quayside town of Wells-next-the Sea, from which North Norfolk’s Heritage Coast can easily be explored. The cathedral city of Norwich is a fifty-minute drive.
