The Old Forge
Dating back to the 14th century and mentioned in Chaucer’s ‘A Pilgrims Progress’, the Old Forge provides Bed and Breakfast accommodation of history and character.
Period features remain intact, such as the York Stone floors and bar, the exposed beams and the forge that adjoins the property. The three oak-beamed rooms are comfortably furnished and feature a host of amenities including digital TVs and Wi-Fi connections.
The restaurant holds three AA rosettes for culinary excellence with a heavy emphasis on local seafood including shrimps, lobster, Cromer crab, oyster, sea bass and North Sea cod. All vegetables are sourced from local farm shops.
Nearby the Thursford Collection is a museum of classic steam engines, organs and merry-go-rounds. The festive season heralds the pageantry of the Christmas Spectacular, the country’s most popular Christmas show, for which The Old Forge offers special deals.
The medieval Catholic pilgrimage shrine of Walsingham is another local attraction, while the Georgian market town of Holt is in the vicinity. The stunning North Norfolk Coast is within a few miles and the cathedral city of Norwich is a fifty-minute drive.
