The Lifeboat Inn

The Lifeboat Inn certainly has bags of character; its former incarnation was as a 16th century smugglers’ alehouse. In the present day it is a well-preserved coastal inn providing family-friendly hotel accommodation with period features and a great local produce-based restaurant, part of a group of inns owned by the celebrated TV chef Marco Pierre White.

Rooms are spacious, comfortable and rustic in style, with pine furniture, warm colours and cosy soft furnishings.

The bar has exposed beams and a roaring fire, and serves an extensive menu of simple, locally produced fare. The elegant restaurant is similar in style, but with a comprehensive three-course menu and full service. The imaginative wine list offers a selection from small growers and bijou vineyards.

Thornham itself is a handsome village on the celebrated Heritage Coast. A short drive along the coast reveals a host of charming coastal towns and villages, all with their own unique character. Attractions of note include the wildlife of Blakeney and Cley and the golden sands of Holkham, which doubled as the Caribbean in the closing scenes of Shakespeare in Love.

Further inland, there are historic market towns like Holt and Burnham Market, with tasty bistros, wine bars and one-off boutiques.
