Swan House, Beccles

Swan House Beccles, an historic and characterful inn, is already renowned for its fine dining in convivial surroundings and the hosting of varied artistic and musical events.

Spectacular boutique accommodation has now been added. Captivating rooms built and decorated by local craftsman and artists are each named after a local historic figure and combine period character and state-of-the-art modern features with a touch of quirkiness and informality: Seth’s room is described as ideal “for short lovers” because of the low clearance of the beams.

Every room has original and artistic touches to make the stay memorable and of course luxurious comfort with en suite bathrooms, fully sprung mattresses, crisp white bedding, flat-screen TVs with surround sound and mp3 compatibility as well as delicious treats. The breakfasts are rather special too with an à la carte menu ranging from Eggs Benedict and the traditional option, to the house speciality selection of cured meats and cheeses, croissants and toasted breads, fresh fruit and Birchermüesli.

The pretty market town of Beccles on the meandering River Waveney with access to the Norfolk Broads, has an attractive marina and a range of cafés, pubs and restaurants. From here it is a short trip to the Suffolk Heritage Coast, with Minsmere Bird Sanctuary and splendid sandy beaches at Southwold, Dunwich and Aldeburgh.

The fine cathedral city of Norwich, about half an hour’s drive to the north, has a magnificent Norman cathedral and castle and is one of the top ten UK shopping destinations.
