Baileygate Bed and Breakfast

Marcon House was the village doctor’s house in Victorian times and occupies a prime position in Castle Acre, a few steps away from the historic Baileygate after which the Bed and Breakfast is named.

The self-contained ground floor accommodation offers special comforts to pamper the many walkers who pass through. The bedroom is decorated in soothing pale colours and has a sofa for extra comfort. The gleaming new shower room pampers with thick towels and Molton Brown bath products, and the breakfasts have won particular praise.

Castle Acre is one of the most remarkable villages in Norfolk, having not only the remains of a large Norman Castle and Bailey Gate, but also one of the best-preserved priories in the country, dating back to 1090. The village is an excellent base for walkers: the famous Peddars Way skirts the village and meets the Norfolk Coast Path at Holme-next-the-sea on the North Norfolk coast.

The long sandy beaches, unique bird reserves and picturesque coastal resorts of the North Norfolk Heritage Coast are within easy reach of Castle Acre, as are the great houses of Sandringham, Oxburgh, Houghton and Holkham. The cathedral city of Norwich is a fifty minute drive.
