The Crown Hotel Mundford

The Crown Hotel dates back to 1652 and was once a hunting inn playing host to the local magistrates’ court. Set on the village green, the historic beamed building has comfortable bedrooms individually designed with en suite bathrooms and extra features for comfort, including work desks.

The hotel has a good restaurant with an extensive menu served in the bars, restaurant or garden and is popular with walkers calling in for coffee or lunch after a walk in Thetford Forest, Britain’s largest lowland pine forest. Two spacious and charming holiday houses, Clare House and Hannah House are also available.

In the forest, waymarked trails meander through trees and bracken in a habitat frequented by deer and pheasants, and there is a network of cycle routes, bridle paths and designated spots of natural beauty for picnics.

The area has many National Trust properties such as Ickworth House and Oxburgh Hall, while Sandringham, the Queen’s much-loved winter retreat, is under an hour’s drive.

The historic cities of Norwich and Cambridge can both be reached in forty minutes and the stunning North Norfolk Heritage Coast is a similar distance.
