The Trowel and Hammer

The Trowel and Hammer has been an inn since 1700. Some of the original beams can still be seen and a 25 metre well, possibly dating back to medieval times, has recently been discovered next to the main building.

The six rooms are in contemporary style – decorated in muted colours with comfortable beds, gleaming private or en suite bathrooms and modern furniture. Some of the rooms have seating areas. A hearty breakfast is served and from noon the restaurant at the Inn serves a range of tasty food ranging from light bites to roasts.

The central location of the Trowel and Hammer is a great advantage, a few steps away from the new Chapelfield shopping mall and Norwich’s main shopping street, St Stephens. It is also just a short stroll from here to the historic centre with cobbled streets, lanes lined with fascinating small shops and boutiques, and a wealth of historic buildings. The Norman cathedral is one of the finest in England, and the majestic castle with its fine twelfth century keep is prominently situated overlooking the city.

For more rural pursuits, the Norfolk Broads, with miles of unspoilt waterways are a short drive away, and the Norfolk Coast, with brick and flint villages, sandy beaches and traditional seaside delights is also nearby.
