The Hare and Barrel

In the heart of a Breckland market town, the Hare and Barrel Hotel offers rooms with a pleasing blend of period features and bright Mediterranean colours. The hotel dates from 1806 and ten of the sixteen rooms are in the converted coach house of the former manor; all offer en suite facilities and free Wi-Fi.

Spacious communal areas include a conservatory and games room and outside seating in a flowery courtyard and beer garden. In the traditional restaurant, freshly cooked food using fine local ingredients is served.

Watton is close to Thetford Forest, the largest lowland pine forest in Britain, where there are twenty-six marked walking trails and many cycling routes. The Tudor manor house Oxburgh Hall is nearby, and the historic city of Norwich, with its Norman castle and cathedral and famous outdoor market, is just forty minutes away.

The splendid North Norfolk Heritage Coast is just an hour’s drive, with wide beaches that sweep along its northern coastline – perfect for bucket-and-spade days out. The breezy salt marshes behind offer unbeatable bird-watching and there are many quaint coastal towns and villages to visit.
