Chalk and Cheese

Chalk and Cheese is an attractive former schoolhouse, an unusual setting for the Bed and Breakfast accommodation and the popular bar and restaurant.

The three well-appointed bedrooms are prettily decorated. The four poster room, resplendent with Victorian furnishings, has a roll top bath in its en suite bathroom; the other bedrooms are more contemporary in style with sparkling shower rooms.

The high-ceilinged restaurant has been a welcome addition to the village and has Italian-style food – the pizzas come from a wood-fired pizza oven. The large bar area has comfy sofas for relaxing, a huge fireplace and an ornate wooden bar. In an adjacent converted building is a charming farm shop heated by an Aga stove, and a gallery shop showcasing local artists.

Peaceful Shouldham is just seven miles from the historic town of Downham Market and from here Cambridge is just a half hour train ride. Twenty minutes away the medieval port town of King’s Lynn has two historic market places, a number of merchant’s houses and a range of museums. Nearby too is the Royal Sandringham Estate.

On the nearby coast is the relaxed seaside village of Heacham, containing the Norfolk Lavender Company, and the resort town of Hunstanton, famed for hours of sunshine and long-lasting sunsets, sandy beaches and sandstone cliffs. RSPB reserves at Snettisham and Titchwell are also easily accessible.
